ENVIRONMENT MANAGER – TEXAS PLATFORM CONSOLIDATION (TPC)
The Environment Manager acts as the Single point of contact for all TPC environment requests and is responsible for the provision of all environments on the TPC development /test server, their configuration status, stability and maintenance. They also provide administrative activities such as backups, code and data refreshes at the request of the project, monitor usage of environments, supplying support throughout the test execution, including out of hours working if required. They will be expected to manage change to the environments and keep the program and testing informed of status. They must be able to give advance warning of downtime of any component of the test environment, which may cover multiple platforms. Duties are predominantly based around the organization’s infrastructure but can extend to cover interfacing with 3rd party organizations which are offering equipment to form part of the project environment.
Responsibilities:
• Provide strong leadership to technical team members and senior responsibility for project deliverables
• Act as a Single Point of Contact for end to end management of the project/s test environments
• Manage the integrated and component environment entry and exit criteria. Expand and develop these and the associated processes as may be required.
• Responsible for stability, availability and reporting for environments.
• Planning and coordination of application package deployment and releases.
• Assist with estimates and impact assessments for new component and integrated test environments.
• Provision of application and system administration support to address requests and environment defects in a timely manner.
• Act as point of escalation for: component teams; application development teams; testers and test team member
• Manage and report on Risks / Assumptions / Issues and Dependencies of the test environments for the associated project/ s.
• Input to Service Level Agreements with the project team for environment provision, availability and support.
• Input into dedicated and shared environment booking and scheduling. Planning and managing the build, delivery and support of all TPC environments, in accordance with program direction. Identifying and escalating where necessary issues that cannot be resolved locally.
• Maintaining configuration control of the environment ensuring that the physical hardware installation, build and patch state of every environment is known. All changes to the environment to be recorded and auditable and available to the Program.
• Recording incidents as they occur and managing them to completion ensuring lessons learned are documented.
• Develop and maintain close relationship with peer groups i.e.: Core IS, Development and Test Teams.
• Providing feedback to the Director QA and TPC program on shortcomings with and potential improvements to the environment
• Supporting Internal and External meetings as directed
• Producing routine reports as directed by Director QA.
Be responsible for ensuring the provision of suitable environments for all aspects of the testing of the core system.
• ensure that the interfacing systems test environments are available and of a known and controlled configuration.
• Ensure environment remains available for the duration of the project. As many peripheral systems should be delivered on similar timescales.
• Thought must be given to the possibility of different environments being required, where phases of testing overlap, or where the requirements of the testing phase are such that the provided environment needs to be changed or upgraded.
• Establish environment Change Control Process covering infrastructure, database, and application changes
• Approve and manage all hardware or software upgrades to the environments.
• Institute change control over the environments and maintain level of control through a formalized mechanism
• Communicate changes to stakeholders including Development, Testing Manager, UAT, Training, Project Managers, and Core IS.
• Create and maintain a control list of users for each environment
• Create and maintain record of configurations for each environment including detail of hardware builds, OS versions, and patch levels.
• Control any and all adhoc changes to the environment
• Ensure support for environment during all times of test execution. Create list of different elements of the environments and contact names and numbers of the people that they support.
• Create and maintain plan of environment use-which projects, which environments and what time frames.
• Notify users/stakeholders of outages; and records in outage log.
• Monitors and tracks any problems that occur in the environments
• Distribute reporting with following information to stakeholders
1. Planned usage for the week.
2. Planned outages for the week.
3. Planned changes for the week.
4. The statement of configuration for each environment.
5. Planned refreshes of code and data
• Manages environment map document; negotiates with projects for environment use, and time frames
• Works with QA /Testing team on understanding defect fixes being implementing into different releases
• Minimize environment downtime for testing and development teams
