Waggware is live at Oracle Open World and yes it is a very busy place with a lot going on!  With over 40,000 people in attendance, and over 170,000 cups of coffee being served there is plenty of brain food being served up.  I was reminded this morning by President of Oracle Safra Catz that the software industry has a long way to go in terms of innovation when you consider that 70% of IT spending is focused on improving operations and 30% spent on innovation.  Ms Catz went on to compare the software industry to the automotive industry.   When you buy a car you get a packaged product that is built fully assembled.  When you buy software you have to put all the parts together yourself.  It is for this reason that Oracle is committed to building solutions with open standards and will continue to spend 3 billion dollars a year in research and development.

For the latest updates feel free to follow me on Twitter to find out what's going on at this year's Open World event.
