I've been receiving emails, feedback and tweetbacks from our video that we published yesterday about #ITfail. Due to the popularity of the post I decided to expand beyond the three basic elements that we discussed of project failure which included:
- Cost overruns
- Missed deadlines
- Failure to meet business expectations
Here are a few more specific definitions of IT Project Failures.
- Business owners did not perceive the project to be successful
- The project failed to deliver business value
- The wrong value was delivered
- The delivery of the software implementation was too late and made the end product useless
- The software lacks future scalability and evolutionary capabilities
- The IT project lacks business environment integration
I'm very interested in hearing about your definition of IT project failure. Please submit them in the comments.
